Eco-Friendly Facilities
A little bit about how to use the facilities...
Our composting toilets are super easy to use once you get the hang of them. They are emptied every day so they are clean and pleasant to use.
To start, they dont have any lighting except small LED lights inside the door that you push to switch on or off and you may want your torch or lamp.
They look very like a normal toilet but there is one big difference. To stop them smelling there is a separator that keeps the liquids away from the solids. This means that there is no standing up gents. You have to sit down whatever you are doing.
Once you have finished, simply take a scoop of the shavings from the bucket by the toilet in the shed and shake it down the hole of the toilet. Thats it, simples. Then of course use some of the eco-friendly, cruelty free hand sanitiser for your hands.

Electricity free..
There is no mains electricity at the campsite. So no charging phones, no hairdryers, no shaving sockets. There are a few solar powered fairy lights and lights in the toilets and shower, however, it is mostly starlit. And on a clear night the moon will light your way to the toilets or shower.
So please remember to bring battery powered torches or lamps, or solar powered ones.
By our honesty shop you will find the recycling facilities and a store of logs for the fire pits.
You can pre-book the fire pits and logs and firelighters or they are also available to purchase in the honesty shop.

Gas powered shower...
The off-grid shower run off mains water and a bottled gas boiler. Simply step into the shower and turn on the tap.
The temperature and the water flow rate have been pre-set and you cannot alter it. It has been set to be neither too hot or cold. If you have any issues call Katie or Shaun.
Beside the shower you will find the covered washing up facilities.
Wash up area..
Beside the shower there is a dish washing area with cold water. We suggest that you boil a kettle of hot water at your pitch to bring over with your dishes. Use the cold water to get the right temperature for washing your dishes.
Please use the composting bins in the was-up area to compost your food waste. The metal sink does not have a plug so you will need to tip away your dirty dishwater into the soak away which is the stony area underneath the standing tap beside the wash-up area.
The water from the tap in the wash-up area and from the standing tap by the soak away are both drinking water coming straight from the mains.
